CERTIFICATE IV IN EDUCATION SUPPORT

Certificate IV in Education Support is relevant for workers who:

  • work in a range of education and school settings
  • provide assistance and support to teachers – to facilitate student learning
  • work under broad based supervision
Entry requirements for the Certificate IV in Education support

Participants require either

  • current or recent experience in a learning support role, e.g. an education support worker, integration aide, teacher aide, teacher assistant, literacy assistant, OR
  • successful completion of a Certificate III qualification in education support, children's services or a related area
Units

Participants are required to complete a combination of core and elective units for this qualification:

  • core units – supporting student behaviour, responding to students at risk, complying with policies in the education environment, working with diversity, collecting and analysing information, assisting in the facilitation of learning, using high-level communication skills, contributing to continuous improvement processes, contributing to OHS processes
  • elective units – groupings of electives include supporting literacy and numeracy learning, special needs education support work, education support work, e-learning, cultural awareness
Career opportunities

Enrolment
  • enrolment can be organised at the beginning of each term – at any time of the year
Assessment
  • assessment is competency based and includes research assignments, online support, class activities, group work and work placement experiences
  • assessment is part of a flexible learning process
  • a significant part of the assessment includes developing a supportive portfolio that may include:
